System Requirement

All the services that our Network Management products can provide are all based on the industry standard Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) versions V1 through to V3 including RMON, and would require that network hardware and servers were running a SNMP agent.

Should your current network hardware not currently support SNMP then OrcaSoft can advise on the requirements of the networking hardware to provide SNMP to the appropriate level.

Our network management product can provide Network Usage reports, automatic trend and baseline reports, Service Level Agreement (SLA) reporting.

Also this software can provide automatic paging or emailing of staff should the flexible event criteria define this requirement.

A near real-time status map of the network and servers can be viewed from many different locations and sites if required using either a web browser or the provided network management client dependant on available bandwidth and requirements. Therefore it is possible that both OrcaSoft and the customer could see the exact same network status together. Allowing peace of mind for both customer and supplier.

How does it work?

The network status is managed in 2 ways, polling and traps. 

Polling is where the Network management station will initiate a SNMP request to the network device. 

Traps are where the network devices will send unsolicited traps to the network management station on event changes, such as interface down, disk space or CPU usage etc.

The network management has a hierarchical network polling structure where remote polling servers can be located over low bandwidth lines. The remote servers will be responsible for updating the main network-polling server using as little bandwidth as possible. Therefore allowing the low-bandwidth lines to be used for application services and not management services.
